Paris Motor Show Highlights

So everything is going down in France right now as the Paris Motor Show is being held. There are some pretty cool cars but nothing really mind boggling. Here are the top three cars that were at the show.

1. LaFerrari Aperta

As if the LaFerrari coupe wasn’t exclusive or eye catching enough, Ferrari decided to officially launch the Aperta model. All the of the 200 soft top cars are sold. Yep that’s right, each of these $2.2 million babies is long gone.

This was an expected release. The Aperta has the same hybrid setup that produces 950HP, but it did gain a little weight since convertibles always need some more reinforcements. A 50,000 Euro carbon fiber roof could save some weight also. In my opinion, I would take an Aperta over a regular coupe because the cut out roof just makes it look like Batman’s weekend cruiser (sadly Batman’s a Lambo guy).

2. Renault Trezor

Ok, now this is really Batman’s weekend cruiser. This sleek, elegant, hunkered down glittering silver concept by Renault stole the show by surprise. It’s actually fully electric and signifies big automaker’s initiative to get into Tesla’s space. But, it’s very chunky and the power is pretty weak: the 3527 pound Trezor with its 349 HP reaches 60 in less than 4 seconds.

By the way, there is an autonomous feature in the car. Hmmm.....need to see if this thing actually works since autonomous is all the rage these days.

3. Mercedes Generation EQ Crossover

Things are churning over at Mercedes. They definitely have the initiative to keep making these fully electric concepts, like their EQ Crossover. The EQ caught my eye just because of the styling. It looks like a utopian Mercedes GLS with unoticable haunches and lines. There is an eco-friendly look in the cabin also. I really like the minimalistic look Merc is striving towards.

However, I am a little skeptical of these cars actually getting into production. For starters, they have just been printing out these same concepts like the F105, F-Cell, Ener-G-Force. Plus the stats for this concept are meager: 402 HP, 310 miles of range, and 0-60 in “under five seconds”. No one can crack Tesla’s bubble of supremacy!

Yeah, so nothing totally bonkers at the show. But, expect next year’s Geneva Motor Show to feature some really cool production cars from the Germans and possibly some autonomous cars that are going to kick Tesla’s butt!
