The Electric Era

So if you didn’t already hear, Tesla just announced that they are going to put a behemoth of a 100 kWh battery in the Model S and X. And this release on August 23 got me thinking.

But first, let’s dive into the mad specs that the new cars will have. The Model S P100D will boast a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds (by the way that is faster than the Porsche 918, P1, and LaFerrari making it the fastest production car ever).

That means while enjoying the 315 mile range in this new Model S trim, you can actually accelerate your kids to school faster than they if they were to go in any hypercar on the market right now (but hypercars aren’t really for school runs, right?).

It gets better with the Model X. The Model X is an already powerful car as demonstrated by a Motor Trend video where the Model X beats an Alfa Romeo 4C while towing an Alfa Romeo 4C.

The Model X P100D will be the fastest seven seater on the market. It will catapult to 60 in just 2.9 seconds. Where the last most powerful trim, the P90D, had a range of 250 miles, Elon just changed the game by upping it to 289 miles!

Now, all of this extra horsepower and range is great for one reason: it eliminates excuses about electric cars. This was my big revelation. When the Model S first came out, or any car in the electric car market in general, there were always people cringing and shouting, “There isn’t enough power!” or that, “There isn’t enough range!”

But Elon has effectively silenced all of those haters with these new releases. Now the sedan is faster than the whole ranges of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Mclaren! Even their SUV is only 0.5 seconds away from the Laferrari’s 0-60 time!

This debunking of skeptics is not only being done by Tesla. There are a bunch of upstarts challenging some of the fastest cars on the planet. Take for example Rimac. They showcased their Concept One car at Pebble Beach not too long ago and sent it to drag race a LaFerrari. It looks stunning with a roof curve that extentuate the rear haunches to make it look like a beast ready to pounce on its prey.

And it beat the Ferrari also with its instant 1180 pound feet of torque to get it off the line. This Rimac and the new Teslas signal a wave of new electric car adoption. These cars set records all of the time and do insane tests like driving a Tesla transcontinental using superchargers just to show skeptics that electric is the future. Electric cars are here to stay and can only get better.
