Google's Gone Wild!!!
I knew that this was going to happen! Google and Fiat Chrysler are teaming up to make 100 autonomous Chrysler Pacifica minivans! I had previously thought that a move like this in the autonomous car industry was going to happen-the Silicon Valley tech getting put into the common everyday car.
Everyone can agree on the fact that minivans are downright boring. With the typical 250 HP, a lousy transmission, and average handling through the corners, these cars are no Ferraris. They serve one purpose, getting from point A to point B with a boatload of cargo, a whole family, and decent MPG.
By targeting the most mundane car segment that is out there, Google and Fiat Chrysler are able to begin the production of actual, everyday autonomous cars that people can use without disrupting car enthusiasts. If Google said they are going to convert a sleek, nimble GT car, everyone would be up in arms. But the prospect of a self-driving, But, a 287 HP minivan doesn’t sound that bad and will lead to vast amounts of autonomous cars being purchased.
Google’s technology is the best in the business. They have been driving around modified Lexus SUVs for more than one million miles and no incidents have been reported. Bonkers! These guys know how to create a reliable, safe autonomous car that will win the hearts of consumers when it hits production.
The Pacifica in general has all the modern conveniences you would expect from an average minivan. Bluetooth, room for seven, and a maximum 60 MPG highway in the hybrid variants are seen. Outside, the car has this clean, streamlined design but there are no beautiful haunches that are worth mentioning.
Guys, watch out, Google and Fiat have just taken a leap in the overall history of autonomous cars. This event will be looked back on as the beginning of the mass produced autonomous car. Although the 100 prototypes will be ready by 2020. Then, the fate of the autonomous car will rest on those prototypes. We are far away from a production ready model, but the expected surge in autonomous cars will be compounded by the Pacifica.
