Highlights from the 2016 New York Auto Show

Ahhh, the annual New York Auto Show. I love the show and have been going since I was seven. Well, this year is no different. Here are the top three cars that I loved at the show.

3. Starting off with number three is the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder that debuted at the show. This was one of a few cars that were released at the show. For the 2017 Spyder, Audi plopped in the new R8’s body and chopped off the roof. The hardtop Spyder features the same diamond-mesh grille and refined, microscopically precise LED headlights like in the R8 coupe. Power starts at 540 HP for the V10 and goes up to 610 HP for the V10 Plus. Expect the Spyder to be ubiquitous while thrashing the mountains above Monaco and a price tag shooting well above $160,000.

2. Moving to number two is the Porsche 911R. Yep, this is basically a GT3 that has a manual gearbox and no obnoxious wing. The purist car was released back in Geneva and was flocked by onlookers even in New York. The manual sure does the trick for Porsche enthusiasts since all of the $185,000 cars are sold out. Power is derived from 500 horsies and they propel the car to 200 MPH! I actually prefer the true Porsche mentality of the 911R in comparison to the outrageous wing on the GT3. You could land a 747 on that wing!

1. And closing things up folks is the epitome of hypercars, the rarest of them all, the one and only Koenigsegg One:1! One horse per one kilogram, that’s the idea that Koenigsegg had. This baby fetches $6 million on the after market and is deemed a mega-car due to its 1,360 HP (megawatts are 1,341 HP). What was even more surprising is how Manhattan Motorcars managed to get one of these to the show since only eight exist on Earth. Bonkers my friends! With a 273 MPH top speed and the weight of paper, the One:1 can makes standard Bugattis have nightmares.

To beat the Bugatti, it employs massive aerodynamic technologies such as the huge lipped spoiler in the rear and the front diffuser. Air is literally scared of the car. Carbon fiber is used like it is going out of style to create an agile Swedish machine that can actually handle corners. The Bugatti Chiron has a lot to live up to.

The show was pretty good due to that Koenigsegg, but there weren’t many releases. All is good because I got to spend a couple hours with some of the most exclusive cars in the world that enthusiasts admire the most. I’ll see you guys next week!
