Supercar Nirvana

As a young kid, I was always on the look out for supercars. I made it my goal to see every single unique performance car that was on the roads in my area. Well, New Jersey doesn’t really have that many Aston Martins and Rolls Royces flying by all the time. Here is the best place to go supercar spotting.

Of course, the place that I’m talking about is London. To be more specific, I’m focusing on Knightsbridge and Mayfair during the summer. Knightsbridge and Mayfair are both right along Hyde Park-one of the ritziest places in all of London. This is the place where all of the boutique stores like Harrods are.

But wait a second; I know what you are thinking. What about Monaco? The reason that I didn’t pick Monaco was because it is way to crowded. London is a bigger city and there is more space for growling and prowling supercars to showcase their brutal accelerations.

There are so many Ferraris and custom Bentley’s meandering the streets is due to the “Arab Supercar Invasion”. This is the name that the locals gave to the event since there are so many Bugattis and Pagani Huayras with Middle Eastern license plates in London.

It all began when people from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar thought that it was too hot during the summer in their native desert countries. They had all of so much money to burn because of all that black gold! One thing lead to the next and they decided to spend the whole summer in London for the temperature, luxurious accommodations, excellent high priced shopping venues, and the history. This went on for years. Some of these Sheiks bought property in the highest priced neighborhoods like Belgravia or Mayfair. Eventually, they said, “Why don’t we bring our supercars to London for the summer.” And that’s how the Arab Supercar Invasion was born.

Now that we got that history lesson out of the way, let’s talk about the cars. The peak month is August. That’s when the custom Lamborghini Aventadors complete with their five figures Novitec performance kits come out. These cars are true bat mobiles in every aspect.

Speaking of high priced exhaust systems, the brutal Brabus G65 shows up every summer. This Russian hitman SUV is the loudest SUV in the world! It even got the Westminster Council thinking about banning some of the supercars from London. Plus, the whole Brabus fleet somehow shows up-from the giant G63 6x6 beast to the track bread AMG GTS.

This tradition of bringing cars to London for the summer has created a competition to have the best car. One of the factors that started this competition among the rich Sheiks was that their cars were getting so much attention on YouTube. London became the place to be because of the cars.

These rich Middle-Easterners are eager to be on the top, so they invest heavily into their London fleets. A regular Lamborghini Aventador has the same significance in London as a Ford Fiesta these days. In order to stand out, a feisty exhaust system, a DMC body kit, and a satin car wrap are required. There also needs to be a novelty factor towards it. Take the Lamborghini Aventador SV. They began customer deliveries in the beginning of the summer and poof-there were three of these $750,000 ultra rare Lamborghinis racing in between traffic in the city streets in June!

Other sightings in this area range from fully exposed carbon fiber Pagani Huayras, Rolls Royce Wraiths that out number all of the black taxicabs of London, and the occasional McLaren P1 or LaFerrari. This place is like supercar nirvana. Every year, there is always something new and striking. There is a pilgrimage not only from the Sheiks that are looking for an escape from the boiling hot desert but an extensive gathering of supercar enthusiasts. I love this place, and I hope you do too.
