My Favorite Hyper Car of 2015

Well, it wasn’t really released in 2015. In fact, they began producing these cars in 2014. Let me give you a hint…they made 918 of them.

If you guessed the Porsche 918 Spyder, you win! This Hyper Car will always have a special place in my heart. You see, Porsche shocked me when it was released. I had never even seen a car that looked so futuristic. Every part of that car was just so unique. I even remember the show car that they used at Pebble Beach. Those rims on that sparkling silver car were just something else.

Let me begin with the reason why I am in love with the Hyper Car. The Porsche 918 really is an engineering feat. This car has a fully electric motor it along with a feisty turbocharged V8. Those batteries that are powering the electric motor actually help the car reduce its emissions. The car can travel 18 miles in pure electric mode. But once you get on a racetrack, those batteries really help. They provide instant torque and allow you to launch the car to 60 MPH in just 2.5 seconds! Car and Driver tested their 918 and they got an astonishing 2.2 seconds for their 0-60 test! This car is a true beast. But the best part is that it is saving the world at the same time because of its hybrid systems. (Well, it still has that screaming V8 in it, but it is one really good attempt!)

The performance is out of this world, too. Porsche says that this car will lap the 12.9 mile Nurburgring in just six minutes and fifty-seven seconds. It has 887 HP and combined fuel consumption of a massive 67 MPG. Take that Prius!

Not to mention, the Porsche 918 is by far the best looking car that Porsche has ever made in a really long time. It was as if the people working on the car in Stuttgart invited their counterparts from Lamborghini (owned by Audi but the VW Group is their big mama) to look at the car and they accidently swapped car plans. That explains why the Lamborghini Asterion looks god-awful.

To be honest, the exterior is just amazing. The lines edged into the body makes onlookers just want to jump into its amazing interior and rocket it to the moon. It is that good. And I love how the rear spoiler is angled just a little bit when in normal mode. The little features like the spoiler and the decision to have the melodic dual exhaust tips right near the heads of the occupants makes this car so cool. With the Weissach Package for an additional $84,000, you can get the 918 totally stripped of its creature comforts. The car also gets some more aerodynamic bits like a piece that is strapped to the rear wheel arches. It makes the car look more like the Porsche 919 Racing Car that the 918 is based off.

Just like any other Porsche, the interior is also top notch. In the P1 or the LaFerrari, they feature stripped out interiors and none of the cabin technology that we need in the 21st Century. The 918 follows none of their rules and features AC, a revolutionary infotainment screen that can control over 100 functions of the car, and surprisingly comfy bucket seats wrapped special leather solely designed for the 918. But if you’re feeling like you need to get the full experience out of the Porsche 918, just option in for the Weissach Package.

The Porsche 918 is a legendary car that will be synonymous with Porsche’s intentions of creating a Hyper Car that could also save the planet. This could be the best car of the decade!
